Shifu Carlos Aguilar began studying martial arts in 1970 studying under some great martial arts masters.
Wrestling in Junior and High School gives Shifu Aguilar a good understanding for takedowns and ground fighting.
With Master Keith See, moving back to Irvin, TX in the late 70's Shifu Aguilar was unable to complete his studies in Kenpo. Master See made a lifetime impression on Shifu Aguilar's technical knowledge on how the body works and reacts in a fighting situation an important aspect in being able to work good self defense and fighting skills. Sorry to say Master See pasted away in 2007.
Shifu Aguilar studied Northern Shaolin, Praying Mantis, Ba Gua, Hsing-I and Monkey under Master Dai Soung Chun.
Shifu Aguilar officially opened the New Orleans Kung Fu Academy in 1985 and founded the Ling Chuan Kung Fu Association. While owning and operating the Academy in the mid 80's his school competed in Karate and Chinese Tournament competition.
In 1987 became a member of the - Yantai Praying Mantis Boxing Association
Shifu Aguilar became very good friends with Master Glenn Wilson and studied Gong Yuen Chuan Fa with him till Master Wilson move back to Florida in the late 80's. During that time Shifu Aguilar joined an association that Master Wilson was involved in which offered an opportunity to study under even more great Masters. Master Wilson studied under the Famous Master Daniel K. Pai in Pai Lum going on to succeeding him when he passed away.
Master Tsai who is famous for his Fighting Style, Cutting Punches and Cutting Kicks techniques, Iron Palm and Chi Kung.
World Kickboxing Champion Master Don "The Dragon" Wilson.
World Famous Master Al Dacascos one of the most versatile masters in martial arts studying Kajukenbo, Wing Chun, Northern Shaolin, Hung Ga, Ba Gua,Hsing-I, Chi Kung and Iron Palm just to name a few. Master Al Dacascos with permission from his masters in the 70's went on to developed his own style called Won Hop Kuen Do.
First meeting Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee in 1974 at a tournament in New Orleans as he performed My Jhong Law Horn. Master Lee was the first true Chinese Master that Shifu Aguilar met and became good friends with him and his White Leopard Kung Fu Schools. Master Lee famous for his Wu style Tai Chi and his White Leopard Kung Fu Schools adopted Shifu Aguilar and his school and are invited to attend all their events.
In the late 80's Shifu Aguilar met Master Y. W. Chang who was Master Chen Pan-ling's Senior Student. Shifu Aguilar wanted to learn Ba Gua and Hsing-I but Master Y.W. Chang told Shifu Aguilar that he had to learn Tai Chi first before he would teach him Ba Gua and Hsing-I. The first day of class Master Chang went through the first section of Tai Chi one time, when Master Chang was going to repeat it for a second time Shifu Aguilar said he could do it on his own just from doing it once. Master Chang was surprise with his form and memory and turned to him and said " I teach Ba Gua and Hsing I". Master Chang and Dr.Pat McGowen finished translating Chen Pan-ling's Tai Chi Book naming Shifu Aguilar as Master Chang's Senior Student. Sad to say that Master Y. W. Chang passed away in 2002.
To Honor his Master he formed the - Chang's Internal Martial Arts Association
In 2004 became a member of - United States Traditional Kung Fu Wushu Association
In 2005, on the 20th Year Anniversary of the Academy, Sifu Carlos Aguilar promoted his first New Orleans Kung Fu Tournament dedicated to his teacher Grandmaster Y. W. Chang, with the help of Master Lee and Master Nick Scrima. Master Nick Scrima's experience and dedication to promoting Chinese Martial Arts proved his "Friendship through Martial Arts" motto made the tournament a great success.

Giovanni Aguilar started his martial arts training in 1970 studying under some great masters. Constantly winning first place from beginners to the Intermediate divisions he was asked to compete in the Black Belt division by the promoters, giving others a chance to win in the Intermediate divisions, so he did and won anyway. He helped build the foundation and reputation for the Academy since the beginning. Both shifu Carlos and Giovanni Aguilar started their martial arts training in 1970 together as they did everything else in life while growing up. In the 70's if you were 16 years old you competed in the adult divisions which had no weight classes and no gloves, it didn't matter if you weighed 100 lbs or 300 lbs. Both weighing only 100 lbs the bigger guys would try to run over them, they were named the "Twin Tigers" for their aggressive techniques and speed, although they were 11 months apart, they were exactly like twins.
Very sorry to say Giovanni Aguilar passed away in 2006.
Giovanni's love for music at the young age of 9, along with his loyalty, dedication and belief of what his brother Carlos stood for, took the words of the 1966 song "Sonny" to heart which lead him to call Shifu Aguilar “Sonny” the rest of his life. The Twin Life Style that Shifu Aguilar shared with his younger brother will be GREATLY MISSED!

The hard training paid off when she began to compete, winning in form, weapons and fighting. In the mid 80's she help the Academy earn "here comes those black shirts again" reputation for dominating mixed Karate and Kung Fu Tournaments. Constantly winning first place from beginners to the Intermediate divisions she was asked to compete in the Black Belt division by the promoters, giving others a chance to win in the Intermediate divisions, so she did and won anyway. She helped build the foundation and reputation for the Academy since the beginning. Terry also had the opportunity study with some famous masters such as Master Glenn Wilson, Master Tsai, Master Don "The Dragon" Wilson and Master Al Dacascos. Today she trains and helps instruct classes at the Academy. As of 2012 Terry Aguilar has been dedicated to the Academy for 28 years.
Chaz Aguilar started his martial Arts training in 1985. Being the son of shifu had to train harder and was never giving any favoritism. He trained in Chinese martial arts, help lead the Academy in demos and tournaments with his spirit and determination. He also wrestled and trains in boxing. Chaz has turned to coaching where he leads by example as excellent role model, his Non-Profit Boxing Club helps teens and young adults to stay active, his young team has proven themselves in the ring as excellent competitors.

Lon Smith started his martial arts training in 1984 under Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee. Relocating to New Orleans to attend Tulane University, he started his training under Shifu Aguilar in 1986. Lon's loyalty showed in his training, attitude, dedication to working hard and an excellent competiter. Graduating from Tulane he moved to Arlington, TX., then to Atlanta and finally to Monroe, La. his mothers home town where he is an Associate Professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
David Sherman started his martial arts training at a young age in Tae Kwon Do where he achieved the rank of 4th degree under Master Jack Lacoco. Master Lacoco and Shifu Aguilar were good friends and the two schools demonstrated together which lead to David starting his Chinese martial arts training in 1987. Having an open mind help David make a smooth transition into kung fu. David has assembled demos and competition teams over the years. He was an all-round competitor in many regional and national tournaments. He has great fighting ability, always trying new techniques and was never one for hiding behind a “favorite” technique. Moving to Baton Rouge to help in the family business at Ambrosia Bakery, he ran his own Academy and promoted students to Black Sash. With the encouragement and help of Shifu Aguilar, David is thankful that he was able to participate in many training camps and seminars with world renown masters such as Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master C.H. Marr, Master An, Master Tony Yang, Master Glenn Wilson, Master John Tsai and Master Yim Hon Suk. He has also has taught seminars on empty hand, weapons and chi kung. Shifu David trains kung fu students in the Baton Rouge area along with traveling to New Orleans where he supervises the northern shaolin and praying mantis training at the headquarters.

Linda Thai started her martial arts training in 1997 at the age of 10 with Shifu Aguilar. With her eye for detail and dedication she was able to learn complicated forms and techniques at a young age. Performing two man empty hand and weapon sets with her brother Gordon was a treat for any martial arts enthusiast to watch. Her great determination over shadowed her petite size and made her a good competitor against bigger opponents. She graduated from collage with a degree in Pharmacy. She is very involved with all the events of the Academy. As of 2012 Linda Thai has been dedicated to the Academy for 15 years.
Gordon Thai started his martial arts training in 1997 at the age of 9 with Shifu Aguilar. Gordon having strong and solid body at a young age had no problems performing any of the hard training involved in kung fu. Excellent two man empty hand and weapon sets made him and excellent partner for any student to team up with. He has attended seminars with Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee. Enrolling in 1997 at the Academy, watching Chaz Aguilar sparring with students set the coarse for Gordon to follow his desire for one on one full contact sports. Gordon has cross trained in various style of martial arts and trains in boxing under Chaz Aguilar. As of 2012 Gordon Thai has been dedicated to the Academy and the fighting arts for 15 years.
Adam Lewis started his martial arts training in 1998 while in high school in Baton Rouge, LA. under David Sherman. Adam is very competitive, enthusiastic and intense with his martial arts training as he is with everything in his life. He has competed and won in regional and national tournaments. He attended training camps with Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master C.H. Marr, Master Chen Yun Ching and Master Sun De Yao. Graduating from LSU in Petroleum Engineering was offered a job in Anchorage, Alaska. Shifu Aguilar recommended that he study with Master Kurt Wong from the Wu Tang Association. Once enrolling Adam felt at home there and is now instructing some classes at Master Wong school. At the New Orleans Kung Fu Academy, we are very proud of Adam to have been selected by Master Wong as one of his disciples. As of 2012 Adam Lewis has been in Chinese Martial Arts for 13 years.
Patrick Gensler started his martial arts training in 1998 while attending high school in Baton Rouge, LA. under David Sherman. Patrick is a low key, enthusiastic and even keel person, able to perform martial arts and everything in life on a steady scale. Whether performing indivually or two man sets, his adaptable skills make it a pleasure for any classmate to perform or train with. He has attended training camps with Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master C.H. Marr and Mater Sun De Yao. Graduating from University of Houston with Bachelors in Sociology, and his Masters Degree in Social Work at Texas State University . Moving back to his home town of Baton Rouge, he is a Site Coordinator with Communities in Schools of Baton Rouge. Patrick helps assist Shifu David Sherman training students in the Baton Rouge area.
Rick Melancon started his martial arts training in 2000 with Shifu Aguilar while attending UNO and received a B.A. in English from UNO and a MAT from SELU and is a published author. Becoming a school teacher takes a very special and discipline
person, Rick has that No Nonsense approach to what ever he does including martial arts. With encouragement from Shifu Aguilar, Rick has attended camps and seminars Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master Chen Yun Ching and extensively with Master Sun De Yao in Praying Mantis. Rick has moved to Jackson, Miss. to continue his teaching career. With his classmate created an Online Instructor Video Program so that instructors not living in New Orleans area could review and continue their studies with the Academy. As of 2012 Rick Melancon has been dedicated to the Academy for 12 years.
Scott Green stated his martial arts training in 2001 with Shifu Aguilar while attending UNO and received a BA in Communication. Scott is a soft-spoke, enthusiastic well rounded martial artist studying the external and internal styles. With encouragement from shifu Aguilar, Scott has attend training camps with Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master C.H. Marr, Master Chen Yun Ching and extensively with Master Sun De Yao in Praying Mantis. With his interest in health moved to Los Angeles to attend and Graduated from the National Personal Training Institute. He is a Personal Trainer, Certified Kettlebell Trainer and Kung Fu Instructor. With his classmate created and is the manager of the Online Instructor Video Program so that instructors not living in New Orleans area could review and continue their studies with the Academy. As of 2012 Scott Green has been dedicated to the Academy for 11 years.
John Son started his martial arts training in 2001 with Shifu Aguilar. John has an easy going but enthusiastic attitude that turns into intense when training. His quick, slim build make him explosive in martial arts and his desire for one on one contact sports lead him to cross trains in various styles of fighting and trains in boxing under Chaz Aguilar. As of 2012 John Son has been dedicated to the Academy and the fighting arts for 11 years.

Performing two man empty hand and weapon sets with her brother Gordon was a treat for any martial arts enthusiast to watch. Her great determination over shadowed her petite size and made her a good competitor against bigger opponents. She graduated from collage with a degree in Pharmacy. She is very involved with all the events of the Academy. As of 2012 Linda Thai has been dedicated to the Academy for 15 years.
Gordon Thai started his martial arts training in 1997 at the age of 9 with Shifu Aguilar. Gordon having strong and solid body at a young age had no problems performing any of the hard training involved in kung fu. Excellent two man empty hand and weapon sets made him and excellent partner for any student to team up with. He has attended seminars with Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee. Enrolling in 1997 at the Academy, watching Chaz Aguilar sparring with students set the coarse for Gordon to follow his desire for one on one full contact sports. Gordon has cross trained in various style of martial arts and trains in boxing under Chaz Aguilar. As of 2012 Gordon Thai has been dedicated to the Academy and the fighting arts for 15 years.
Adam Lewis started his martial arts training in 1998 while in high school in Baton Rouge, LA. under David Sherman. Adam is very competitive, enthusiastic and intense with his martial arts training as he is with everything in his life. He has competed and won in regional and national tournaments. He attended training camps with Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master C.H. Marr, Master Chen Yun Ching and Master Sun De Yao. Graduating from LSU in Petroleum Engineering was offered a job in Anchorage, Alaska. Shifu Aguilar recommended that he study with Master Kurt Wong from the Wu Tang Association. Once enrolling Adam felt at home there and is now instructing some classes at Master Wong school. At the New Orleans Kung Fu Academy, we are very proud of Adam to have been selected by Master Wong as one of his disciples. As of 2012 Adam Lewis has been in Chinese Martial Arts for 13 years.
Patrick Gensler started his martial arts training in 1998 while attending high school in Baton Rouge, LA. under David Sherman. Patrick is a low key, enthusiastic and even keel person, able to perform martial arts and everything in life on a steady scale. Whether performing indivually or two man sets, his adaptable skills make it a pleasure for any classmate to perform or train with. He has attended training camps with Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master C.H. Marr and Mater Sun De Yao. Graduating from University of Houston with Bachelors in Sociology, and his Masters Degree in Social Work at Texas State University . Moving back to his home town of Baton Rouge, he is a Site Coordinator with Communities in Schools of Baton Rouge. Patrick helps assist Shifu David Sherman training students in the Baton Rouge area.
Rick Melancon started his martial arts training in 2000 with Shifu Aguilar while attending UNO and received a B.A. in English from UNO and a MAT from SELU and is a published author. Becoming a school teacher takes a very special and discipline
person, Rick has that No Nonsense approach to what ever he does including martial arts. With encouragement from Shifu Aguilar, Rick has attended camps and seminars Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master Chen Yun Ching and extensively with Master Sun De Yao in Praying Mantis. Rick has moved to Jackson, Miss. to continue his teaching career. With his classmate created an Online Instructor Video Program so that instructors not living in New Orleans area could review and continue their studies with the Academy. As of 2012 Rick Melancon has been dedicated to the Academy for 12 years.
Scott Green stated his martial arts training in 2001 with Shifu Aguilar while attending UNO and received a BA in Communication. Scott is a soft-spoke, enthusiastic well rounded martial artist studying the external and internal styles. With encouragement from shifu Aguilar, Scott has attend training camps with Master Johnny Kwong Ming Lee, Master C.H. Marr, Master Chen Yun Ching and extensively with Master Sun De Yao in Praying Mantis. With his interest in health moved to Los Angeles to attend and Graduated from the National Personal Training Institute. He is a Personal Trainer, Certified Kettlebell Trainer and Kung Fu Instructor. With his classmate created and is the manager of the Online Instructor Video Program so that instructors not living in New Orleans area could review and continue their studies with the Academy. As of 2012 Scott Green has been dedicated to the Academy for 11 years.
John Son started his martial arts training in 2001 with Shifu Aguilar. John has an easy going but enthusiastic attitude that turns into intense when training. His quick, slim build make him explosive in martial arts and his desire for one on one contact sports lead him to cross trains in various styles of fighting and trains in boxing under Chaz Aguilar. As of 2012 John Son has been dedicated to the Academy and the fighting arts for 11 years.
